Samuel Dobson is a Sydney based MC, composer and producer, whose regular work across musical genres has forged him a reputation as an uniquely vivid Hip-Hop story teller, delving into the darkest corners of the imagination.
His journey has traced from his home in the Blue Mountains, through a four year stint at Sydney Conservatorium, a musical apprenticeship though Mali in West Africa and culminating in the eclectic lifestyle of a full time jazz musician, composer and Hip-Hop artist. Innately restless, Samuel has spent the last 18 months working on his most ambitious project yet, his debut album, simply titled Samuel due for release 18th of February.
Reminiscent of works by The Roots, Earl Sweatshirt and Mathas, Samuel presents itslisteners with a complete saga, with each song a different “scene” following its protagonist down a dangerous path. Made possible by a successful Pozible campaign, response to the three singles released has been generous. Single Coda was within the top 50 Played Tracks on Triple J Unearthed for 2015, received the honour of being one of the quite achievers for 2015 and has received a nod from Lachie Macara as one of his top 10 tracks of 2015.
