MAX MAGUIRE & ALICE HARDIE-GRANT

$5 BAND ROOM

Max grew up between France and the UK. He works on a variety of French chanson, blues, country and soul to form the backdrop on which he sings. His voice is reminiscent of a bygone age of crooners whilst his playful lyrics jump between narratives about people and place to more abstract and phonetic wordplay.

Alice and Max met in London and after a quick exchange of musical interests, they began playing together and were immediately aware of a connection in their voices: a marriage of lower and higher timbres that somehow connect in anticipation of each other. Alice's training in jazz vocals complements max's background in soul, blues and French chanson. They immediately started writing and performing across London's pub circuit. When Alice moved back to Melbourne, Max was soon to follow. They have resumed preforming together and are now working on their first release.

Expect to hear considered songwriting through resonant and characteristic voices.

SUPPORTED BY:

+ THE BACKFOOT WHALERS - Peter, Alex & Will met a few years ago over a possession misunderstanding. They are now friends. Each have different styles - kind of like a mixture of salt, pepper & sugar. This is the first time they have played together outside of a German architect's smoky loft.

+ JIMMY GRANT - Born in Nebraska, USA, and raised on the east coast of Australia in Byron Bay, Jimmy Carroll (James Carroll Waldersee) now writes and lives in Melbourne. He is currently working on a full length release after a time spent discovering and self-teaching the sounds he has come to produce. In Jimmy’s own way the music flows through the mediums of folk, blues and country – from the melancholic to the joyful. The song-writing reflects his own life and observations therein– all moving towards an understanding of his relationships with others, his surroundings, and himself.
