Love Me or Leave Me - A Tribute to Nina Simone

Christine Manetta returns to the Wesley Anne with her previously SOLD-OUT Show.

A musical exploration with interwoven heartfelt stories of the life, loves and passions of the legendary Nina Simone. Focusing on the Jazz and Blues Elements of Simone’s work, Christine’s own distinctive style is passionately driven towards activist art, as she beautifully portrays Nina Simone’s songs giving them a spin of her own, she exposes the human spirit.

Tribal Gospel Beginnings and Cabaret Jazz to Activist Anthems and 60’s Flower Power Hippie Songs. Songs such as I Put a Spell on You, Feelin Good, Sinnerman, Ain’t Got No-I Got Life and My Baby Just Cares for Me.

 

Christine Manetta – Vocals/Narration.  Melbourne Based Songwriter with Songs from her Album ‘One Woman One Day’ recognised in the 2021 Australian Songwriters Association Contest including two of Nina Simone’s works. A Guest Presenter on ABC Radio (Nina Simone Tribute). Notable appearances at the Thornbury Theatre, Albury Entertainment Centre and Festivals at Castlemaine, Merimbula and Port Fairy.

 

Adam Rudegeair – Piano. A prolific composer, performer, and educator based in Melbourne. His music is rooted in jazz and funk, with significant influences from the sounds of New Orleans, Minneapolis, and avant-garde groove musicians such as Sun Ra and Medeski Martin & Wood. Adam's current projects include Lake Minnetonka, The Bowie Project, and the ongoing collaboration with jazz legend Bob Sedergreen ‘Bourbon Street to Brunswick Street’.

 

Hadyn Murtagh – Bass. An internationally touring Double Bassist, originally from Hobart, now based in Melbourne, Australia. Hadyn has toured internationally with the Rowan Pattison trio and played with some of the country's most respected jazz musicians. He now currently holds the bass chair in the Royal Australian Navy Band.

 

Alex BullDrums. A graduate of the Queensland Conservatorium (Bachelor of Music Performance and Classical Percussion). In 2022 Bull premiered one of 67 new works by Australian composers at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) Set Festival and in 2017, had the great honour to be involved in a percussion course at ANAM, where he worked with American percussion greats, Jan Williams, William Winant and Steve Schick.
