The John Flanagan Trio will be bringing their warm harmonies and bluegrass inspired arrangements to venues around Victoria this winter building on the success of John’s recent album release. In this special double bill show they will join forces with Timothy James Bowen who sings with the raw power of Glen Hansard blending with the smooth tones of Ray LaMontagne.
John’s engaging lyricism, uplifting melodies and warm vocal timbre have seen him draw comparisons to James Taylor and Paul Kelly and described as a “songwriting force” of a new generation. His latest album, ‘There’s Another Way to Where You’re Going’ was recorded in Nashville with producer Viktor Krauss and has been a radio favourite.
“The music is just gorgeous, I absolutely love it” Felicity Urquhart, Saturday Night Country, ABC Radio
Festival favourite Liz Frencham (double bass) and bluegrass virtuoso Dan Watkins (mandolin/guitar) add dynamic arrangements and warm vocal harmonies to the trio line up.
2015 brought a rollercoaster of a year for Timothy James Bowen. After touring Australia with The Milk Carton Kids, having a song he co-wrote, ‘From Here On Out’, being chosen for the U.S. TV show, ‘Nashville’, releasing a new record 'Steel & Wood' and making multiple appearances at The Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN., Bowen was diagnosed with stage 4 lymphoma and told that, without treatment, he had only weeks to live. Having endured an intense chemotherapy regime, he returned triumphantly to the stage in May of 2016 to open for and play alongside his sister, Clare Bowen, of the hit U.S. TV series, ’Nashville’, for her inaugural and sold out Australian tour. His performance at the Wesley Anne will be his first in Melbourne since finishing his treatment. With more music planned for release in the coming months and a new lease on life, it’s sure to be a great year ahead.
