Monty Shnier is an Australian Contemporary Bassist based in Melbourne Victoria, Across time spent at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School, and the VCA Undergraduate Degree Monty has studied with some of Melbourne’s finest bassists including Sam Anning, Tamara Murphy, Tom Lee and Jonathan Zion, as well as being one of three young bassists selected to perform for Rufus Reid’s workshop at the 2018 Melbourne Bass Day.
Monty has performed in a wide range of musical situations as both a leader and a sideman, performing with many notable Melbourne jazz luminaries, including performances at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival. Monty’s own compositions draws inspiration from a wide array of sources including the jazz cannon, classical music, cinematic music, and Australian improvised music, with a strong focus on drama and storytelling.
Monty Is currently working extensively as a sideman and session musician in Melbourne, and is composing and performing original music with his quintet in preparation for releasing his debut album early next year.
