Banbury Cross 'Time & Tide' EP Launch

  • Wesley Anne 250 High Street Northcote Hill , VIC, 3070 Australia (map)

Banbury Cross new ep, ‘ Time and Tide’, waits for no person

“Time and Tide” is the newest ep  from Dandenong Ranges trio Banbury Cross. Three part harmony, driving acoustic guitar, lyrical piano, and a rhythm section build simple songs into glorious peaks. “Time and Tide” is where the commonplace becomes transcendent.

Banbury Cross has woven harmonies and traced melodies around the Dandenong Ranges Victoria since 2019, led by ASA and Unisong award winning singer/songwriter Cath Russell.

Says Cath, “The songs on this EP are a combination of some of my oldest and some of my newest songs. Writing for 3 part harmonies through lockdown was an exercise in imagination. How would these tunes sound when we actually recorded? Great to get into the studio and finally realise some of the songs that had been sketched out”

Banbury Cross is an original vocal folk trio featuring Cath, Alice Woodberry and Rachel Nendick with added musical collaborators and instrumental textures. David Carr produced the track at Rangemaster with long distance input from pianist Peter de Ryk.

Mixing Time and Tide was no simple achievement throughout the long multiple Melbourne lockdowns of 2021 and 2021.

“We completed the vocals between lockdowns, then rather than sitting as a group to mix down, it was a matter of sending dropbox and google drive links backwards and forwards.” says Cath

“Step Out” and “Sleeping Lands” were the two singles the band released in the first half of 2021, receiving airplay across dozens of community radio stations around Australia. Banbury Cross has played sold out shows at the Wesley Anne Northcote, Open Studio Northcote and Jimmy Hornets Richmond, sharing gigs with Julia Messenger, Katankin and Lucy’s Lockett.

Time and Tide is available for release from Sat 23rd April
