Melbourne instrumental trio Badinage launch their debut EP Meander at the Wesley Anne on March 26th, with special guest Tara Dowler.
Badinage are: Simon Capp (Rhythm Pigs, Blue Ruin), Dave Reid (Speedway, The Likely Lads, Yard Dogs) and Matt Omond (Cactus, Still Life Clowns, The Ayatollahs).
Via Dave's guitar, Simon's cello and bass and Matt's drums, the band draws a hazy, atmospheric line from the early psychedelia of Jimi Hendrix, Peter Green and Pink Floyd, through to the 90s jazz-tinged slowcore of Spain and the turn-of-the-century post-rock of groups such as Dirty Three, Mogwai and Sigur Rós.
Badinage's garage lounge sound is guitar-driven ambient music with a distinct melodic structure. It could be the soundtrack for a CGI epic; it could be the background music at an underground bar; it could be the tune you hum in the shower. Lush multi-instrumental songs that blend elements of psychedelia, smoky jazz, lazy grunge and pure pop to create ethereal aural soundscapes that are both instantly accessible and wonderfully unique.
The debut EP Meander, featuring the single Surfin’, was recorded and produced by the legendary Phill Calvert who first came to fame as the drummer for iconic bands such as The Boys Next Door/The Birthday Party and The Psychedelic Furs.
There's a certain kind of scenic and cinematic melancholia in the sound of Badinage – hypnotic music for the mind, body and soul.
