Jack Howard and Nicky Del Rey with Alyce Platt

  • Wesley Anne 250 High Street Northcote, VIC, 3070 Australia (map)

Jack Howard and Nicky Del Rey having been making music together for over 25 years now. They first got to know each other during the fertile and fabulous Melbourne music scene ofthe early 80s. Nick was playing in the splendid King Jerklews with artist John Campbell and Jack was beginning his rock’n’roll journey with Hunters & Collectors.

They spent a decade as good buddies but they were passing ships in the rock’n’roll night as the Hunnas moved beyond the local scene and became one of Australia’s iconic bands, touring relentlessly nationally and overseas. Nick,in the meanwhile, was plying his trade aseverybody’s first choice country guitarist around Melbourne. From Intoxica to Lisa Miller’sTruckasaurus to The Moonee Valley Drifters, Nick was the debonaire and brilliant right handman to many a lead singer.

When Jack finally bit the bullet and started recording his own music in 1994, he turned toNick and they’ve stuck fast ever since. Under the guise of Jack Howard & The Long LostBrothers, their duo Nickeljack and as part of Jack’s great Australian music project EpicBrass, Jack and Nick have forged a dynamic and prolific musical partnership.

Alyce Platt is a critically acclaimed, singer-songwriter, guitarist and actor who presents her original music and artistic pursuits through the slightly crooked lens of the Indie-pop artist.

In this last two years, without planning to, Alyce began work on what has nowbecome her third album—Bain Douche—a low-fi, quirky, intimate collection of re-imagined gems connecting in astrange way to what we were collectively experiencing. Recorded daily on her iPhone in the echoes of her bathroom, they have now been expanded into an album featuring some of Melbourne’s finest musicians.

At this show, Alyce will mix her originals with the Bain Douche interpretations, the full array of what makes her music beautifully tick. Both emotive and heartfelt, AlycePlatt performs with passion and intensity.
