Woolgathering

  • Wesley Anne 250 High Street Northcote, VIC, 3070 Australia (map)

Woolgathering is excited to return for their second gig, joined by the wonderful Abi Lee trio at The Wesley Anne.

With each group writing and performing their own music, the two bands will combine with vocalist Ava McDermott to bring their compositions to light as a dectet in the style of Australian jazz greats such as Ten Part Invention and the Johannes Luebbers Dectet.

Woolgathering is a newly formed wind sextet led by Thomas ColemanBell. The band performs arrangements of original tunes and a mix of contemporary classical favorites. With each member being a talented improviser, the music explores the third stream, combining improvisation with detailed contemporary arranging in both jazz and classical styles.

Abi Lee is an up-and-coming pianist, composer, and improviser based in Naarm/Melbourne. Born of Korean parents, she grew up in Auckland, New Zealand. Abi has relocated to Melbourne, drawn by her love of Australian Jazz. With a broad focus on improvisation, Abi’s compositions are mostly inspired by the people and episodes in her life, often dedicating a song to a certain person or anything that brings her joy. Abi’s originals perfectly represent her sense of musicality and her love of music influenced by significant musicians such as Paul Bley, Andrea Keller, Paul Motian, and Bill Frisell.
