Poet Street is a jazz ensemble composed entirely of young female artists of the jazz scene, most of whom are third year students finishing their bachelor degrees. On October 21st 2022, Poet Street released their debut album 'Poet St.' which features their original compositions and some classic standards. Since releasing the album, they have been inspired to write more original compositions, and now have a repertoire of almost entirely original music, leaning into more of a funk sound. Poet Street have plans to record and release fan-favourite singles in 2023, as well as paying tribute to some of their favourite artists and musicals throughout the year. The aim of this band is to inspire other young female / non-binary artists, and to challenge the gender imbalance in the Melbourne jazz scene. The group has flourished since their online formation in the lockdowns of 2020, having played at various locations across Melbourne, as well as being included in the 2020 Melbourne Women's International Jazz Festival, the Dingo Australian Jazz Journal Launch (April 2021), twice featured (2021, 2022) on live radio - Cacao Jazz, 94.1FM 3WBC, and now their album launch which was performed at the Central Club Hotel in Richmond. Poet Street are actively expanding their audience, and are very excited to share their passion, music, and creativity with everyone in the jazz community and beyond. For this performance, Poet Street will be reimagining their music for a horn/bass/keys&voice trio.
