Led by upcoming jazz musicians from Monash University, the Kōyō Quartet is a Naarm-based jazz combo with a keen interest in the hard-bop/modal jazz style, gaining inspiration from albums such as Speak No Evil, Milestones, and Inner Urge. Come on down to hear a fresh new perspective on Autumn Leaves.

Corella Trio

Formed by three emerging talents at Monash university, Corella trio brings you an intimate, stripped-back collection of jazz standards, Australian jazz, and original music. Relaxed, introspective, but with a dash of avian glee, Corella trio features Jay Hills on guitar, Jemima Smith on bass and Tristan Western on tenor sax.

Georgia Rodgers is a young female artist performing a range of diverse original compositions and her own versions of popular songs. This blues/soul influenced song writer performs a raw and engaging set with the accompaniment sound of her telecaster complimenting her raspy vocals. An artist ready to bleed her sounds into the world, Georgia’s performance is one to remember.

Ruth Soul (Catherine Migliore) is a singer/songwriter and visual artist from Naarm/Melbourne, Australia.

Her songs, inspired by suffering, hope, personal experiences and life, bring together soulful vocals fused with alternative/indie musical influences (Anna Cordell, Matt Corby, Jeff Buckley, Marlena Shaw, Alicia Keys).

Catherine started as a self-taught vocalist and guitarist, but then trained in classical and contemporary guitar styles for four years. She began to do music gigs at 18 in Adelaide, but stopped at 21 years old.  After 7 years she  has returned back to the music scene.

In July 2022, she released her first EP, launching it at the Australian Catholic University, and has played around venues in Naarm, supporting most recently musician Beth Winter at Open Studios in Northcote, Rance Lazarus at the The Thornbury local and Sasha Tyler at One2three bar and the Bergy Seltzer.

With a few stories, an old guitar and kick drum, Tony J King creates the music of a journeyman with roots in the street-corner blues and urban folk of yesteryear. With influences ranging from James Elroy, Edgar Allen Poe, Homer, Kerouak and Joseph Conrad, King's latest album delivers slow-burnin, low-fi urban myths, half-truths, dark gospel and random fascinations that are represented in quirky musical tales honed from a pre-occupation with the unusual, the exotic and the downright bizarre.

Janelle Ashley's vocals can be described as a captivating blend of both jazz and contemporary influences. Drawing inspiration from R&B and Neo-Soul legends like Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, D'Angelo, Sabrina Claudio, Giveon and more - her musicality is anything but limited and dull. From hyping up big crowds with her powerful belts, to singing sweet lullaby-like ballads to touch hearts - Janelle's talent and dedication shines through all of her exceptional performances. A skilled songwriter and a graduate of the esteemed Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), Janelle possesses experience and training beyond her years.

Led by titular bassist James Lockwood, the JL Trio draws on a diverse selection of music from the Bebop tradition, reflecting Lockwood’s deep love for the music of Bud Powell, John Lewis, Charlie Parker, and Barry Harris.

Featuring three of Melbourne’s most singular young musicians in the timeless piano trio format, the JL Trio presents each member as a distinct musical voice within the ensemble, placing an emphasis on spirited improvisations inspired by the best of the Bebop tradition.

The fabulous Greta Williams joins Guitarist Benjamin Attiche and Jordan Tarento on Double Bass for an evening of up-and-coming jazz at the Wesley Anne.

Presenting a program of classic tunes from the great American songbook, the three will show off diverse musical backgrounds, virtuosity and their passion for music as an art form.

Hook into some compelling funky blues and jazz melodies and the music’s seductive sway while you listen to some of Melbourne’s long serving and well-established jazz musicians. With saxophone, guitar, double bass and drums Downtown Quartet always strives to deliver the joyous spirit of this music to leave you entranced and enthralled.              

Sue Kidd and Brendan Canty are seasoned entertainers performing a mix of originals and their own take on your favourite covers. You can expect to get rocking with knockout vocals, percussion and a dynamic fusion of guitar and ukulele. Duplicity performs regularly at restaurants and pubs locally and also enjoy travelling, playing and running workshops at many festivals across Australia and New Zealand.

Award-winning pianist and composer Ania Reynolds has performed on pianos all over the world, from airborne pianos in the circus to spinning pianos in Melbourne to airport pianos in Brussels to saloon bar pianos in Sydney. Her career in the arts spans more than twenty years, as former Musical Director for the likes of Circus Oz and Yothu Yindi and the Treaty Project and composer for numerous theatre, circus, dance and film productions. This diversity of experience can be heard in her all original cinematic piano music, which traverses genres including contemporary classical, jazz, Latin, Brazilian and more. A seasoned performer, Ania’s theatrical solo piano performances are inspired by life on the road with the circus, and adventures around the globe.

Melbourne based jazz guitarist Pierre Jaquinot has performed on many different stages in his career, from Hamer Hall, performing with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, to a Richmond pub with blues legend Johnny Shines, and a “memorable” gig in Pentridge jail.

There aren’t too many Melbourne musicians he hasn’t played with either. James Morrison, Joe Chindamo, Andy Baylor and Wilbur Wylde are only a few of a long list.

Now, for the first time, Pierre will be playing with his jazz trio at the Wesley Anne. Exploring the musical freedom that comes with the guitar trio format, he will be playing originals and some less frequently played standards. With him will be Scott Hay on drums and Rodrigo Salgado on double bass.

From the south suburbs of Melbourne, Meg and Jack will be traversing the north for an evening of swingin’ standards, ballads and new works. Join them as they weave spontaneity and excitement with musical sensi@vity, performing their diverse and cap@va@ng repertoire.

Meg Pearson:

Meg is an emerging jazz vocalist and improviser based in Melbourne. Currently a Jazz and Improvisa@on student at Monash University, her studies have immensely inspired her crea@vity as a vocalist and band leader. By honing in on her pure and effortless vocal tone, under the guidance of mentors such as Michelle Nicolle, Louisa Rankin and Harriet AllcroO, Meg explores the depths of her voice through her repertoire, from jazz standards to contemporary/folk to modern jazz works.

Meg had the pleasure of being a finalist for the 2023 Genera@ons in Jazz Vocal Scholarship. She has performed in well known Melbourne venues such as Paris Cat Jazz Club, The Alexander Theatre, The Count’s, as well as taken part in the Melbourne Interna@onal Jazz Fes@val and Inverloch Jazz Fes@val. Meg is part of a vocal trio that performs regularly in Melbourne with the Will Jones Big Band, playing the music of the Andrews Sisters. She has had the honour of performing with many Australian jazz legends including Paul Grabowsky AO, Kris@n Berardi, Paul Williamson, Sam Anning, Bre\ Williams, Robert Burke, James Sherlock, Danny Fischer, Kyrie Anderson, Simon Starr and Grant Windsor.

Jack Marken:

Jack Marken is a jazz guitarist based in Melbourne, Australia. Picking up the guitar at age 8, Jack would quickly demonstrate his passion and intense focus for music.Studying under the guidance of Chris Bieniek – a virtuosic and versa@le musician in the jazz and rock scenes – Jack audi@oned and was accepted into Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School where he would learn under the supervision of Australia’s most proficient and experienced musicians (James Sherlock, Ian Whitehurst, Mick Meagher). In his one year at VCASS, Jack earned a maximum study score of 50 in VCE Music Inves@ga@on, and con@nued to study a Bachelor of Jazz and Improvisa@on at Monash University.

Jack performs regularly at Melbourne’s prominent jazz venues such as Paris Cat and The Wesley Anne, and has played music in rock musicals, corporate jazz bands and various fes@vals (Melbourne Interna@onal Jazz Fes@val and Inverloch Jazz Fes@val)Currently working to complete his Bachelor of Music, Jack is embarking on mul@ple ongoing projects outside of his studies, performing as both a sideman and a band leader for Jazz, RnB, Folk and contemporary genres.

Indi&Noons are an acoustic duo from inner Melbourne looking to make a dent in the Live music scene in 2024. Indi&Noons offer their unique blend of male and female vocals performed acoustically in a stripped back manner, that aims to highlight their songwriting skills, and their vocal abilities. 

The Max Bruten trio will feature some of Melbourne’s most exciting young talents. Freshly back from America observing and studying with modern greats of jazz, Max and his band hope to offer an authentic and unique take on some of the more niche song choices from the great American songbook.

Alex Burns, career is well documented, one of Australia's most respected musicians, having performed at most major festivals in Australia and overseas at Edinburgh and various pacific locations, and numerous recordings, Alex, solo show brings together the broad repertoire of American string styles where blues meets early jazz.

Graduating from the University of South SA in 2017, Cameron is a professional jazz clarinettist. He is a lover of many styles including cool jazz, bebop, and latin music, however he specialises in swing jazz and New Orleans music. He decided to hone his skills by travelling to the Berklee College under scholarship from 2018 - 2020, where he toured both Boston and New Orleans with his band, performing with artists Catherine Russell and Phil Wilson, before the events of covid brought him back home to Melbourne. Since returning, Cameron has been performing around several of Melbourne's jazz clubs such as the Jazzlab, Uptown, and the S Lounge, and has recently completed his honours degree at the University of Melbourne. This also culminated in the release of his first album, "The Art of the Stomp'', which was released in July this year and focuses on new compositions rooted in Australia's early jazz beginnings. 

Wade and Luke have been a fixture of the Melbourne music scene for over 15 years, playing with Falloe and The Bastard Children respectively, before forming Holy Moses Heartache to critical acclaim in 2013.  With a dozen albums to their names, they will be performing stripped-back versions of songs from their latest Fool Moon Sesssions Eps, as well as a smattering of other hits that never were from their back catalogue. 

Known for their cosmic-country songs, with memorable, tear-in-year-beer melodies and heart-warming harmonies, Wade and Luke like Pina Coladas, getting caught in the rain and long walks on the beach, and Luke is almost certain that with a little more training, he could have gone semi-pro in district table tennis.

Like the first sip from a frozen margarita, Jazz Aphrodisiac will transmit sensual chills up and down your spine as they perform their interpretations of swoon-inducing jazz standards. But instead of tequila and vermouth, let your senses be enthralled by the sweet vibrations emitted from the vocal cords of Helena Plazza, combined with the various guitar notes plucked by Stephen Stanisic. The Gumbo Incident is a three-piece musical ensemble dedicated to creating music inspired by the sounds of New Orleans. Ross Anderson is a Melbourne based composer and bass player whose music interests encompass a vast array of styles and genres. With their electrifying blend of Celtic and American folklore, East of Sunshine tells stories from the heart. Songwriters and multi-instrumentalists, Helena and Kate have burst out of the Melbourne folk scene ready to share their songs of grief, hope and home. Joined by special guest Greta Chen.

An 'unpop' band from Melbourne, Kinematic have been creating a mix of sonic treats, ranging from thoughtful folk music to indie rock, for years and they're bringing their acoustic tunes to the Wesley Anne. Fiercely independent, their songs still have appeared on radio, TV, podcasts, short films, documentaries and an unusual number of people's wedding videos on YouTube - there's plenty of their music to check out on your favourite streaming service.

RETRATOS brings together some of Melbourne’s finest exponents of Brazilian music. The group explores the rich tapestry of sounds and colours found in the music while focussing on a contemporary and original approach to the compositions and group improvisations. The music moves from the Samba and Choro music of Rio de Janeiro in the south, to the street and carnival music of Brazils north eastern regions, where the Forro, Baiao and Frevo rhythms rule.

Hypnic Jerk is a unique artist to Melbourne. Drawing from a pool of ambient, shoegaze and krautrock influences he crafts simple repetitive pop songs with washed out textures, fuzzy leads and child-like refrains.

Stina Tester is a singer-songwriter, vocalist and keys queen. Born in Byron Bay, currently living and creating in Narrm, Melbourne. Her music is a unique blend of soulful folk and moody country.

Stina has spent a number of years collaborating with musicians and artists in Melbourne’s diverse and eclectic music scene. Playing in various bands including spitehouse, Stina and Cinta, B.C. and plastic chairs, Christina made the most of that collaborative opportunity, experimenting with and exploring her musical expression on synth, bass, guitar and vocals. 

In 2019, with just herself and a piano, Stina began crafting songs of a more intimate and reflective nature. Creating a space where she could explore vulnerability and her fascination with the deeper levels of human experience in a playful, creative way. Stina’s music and live performance is dynamic, authentic, playful and rich with creative self-expression.

Stina recently completed recording her debut EP ‘No Turning Back’ with Roger Bergodaz at Union Street Studio. ‘No Turning back’ can be heard on Spotify and through Stina Tester’s bandcamp.

Formerly ZV3, The Snippers are influenced by the body of work of musicians such as Thelonious Monk, Bud Powell, Billie Holiday and Peter Bernstein, Their approach to performing Great American Songbook repertoire draws on the energy and language of bop as well as their collective musical experiences. The Snippers features Zeb Vescio on guitar, Robbie Finch on bass, and Luke Andresen on drums.

Ferdinand are an enchanting musical duo whose performances are guaranteed to delight listeners. Comprised of Yael Zamir (flute) and Patrick Barton Grace (piano), Ferdinand blends the duo’s love of jazz, Brazilian, and classical music into a velvety and unique musical identity. Ferdinand showcases original compositions, as well as arrangements of repertoire from the jazz and Brazilian songbook. A show from Ferdinand is not one to miss!

Hugh McGinlay is a singer songwriter and author based in Australia.

As a musician, he is known for his poetic lyrics and varied styles. A reputation that has increased with his long term collaboration with the Recessive Genes, made up of Adam Chiodo (Laughing Sam’s Dice), Phil Cadman (Fine Motor Skills, Desperately Not Yoko) and Ryan Vermeulen (Fine Motor Skills, Desperately Not Yoko).

Hugh has four albums out: Skeleton Leaves (2019 - with the Recessive Genes), Bliss (2015 - with the Recessive Genes) Elsewhere (2009) and Second Guess (2006) available on itunes (see link at the bottom of the page). Over the years he has toured extensively around the globe and has performed with the likes of Robyn Hitchcock, the Proclaimers, Billy Bragg and Badly Drawn Boy.

The single, I'll be fine was released by Hugh McGinlay and the Recessive Genes in October 2017.

As an author, Hugh is known for the novels Jinx and Pachyderm, the first two in a series about a hard living milliner called Catherine, who lives in Brunswick and solves crimes in her spare time. With 

Pachyderm was long listed for the Ned Kelly awards 2018. Which in Australian crime fiction terms means he was nominated for an Oscar. 

These books are currently out of print, as Threekookaburras Publishing house are no longer in business. Fear not folks, in August 2020 Hugh signed with Clan Destine Publishing house and both books, as well as a third novel Bodysurfing will be available in 2021.

Hugh is often erroneously credited with works of theology, which were written by his father, who was called Hugh McGinlay long before he was.

Hugh is the brother of Australian TV personality and comedian Danny McGinlay.

Adam and Tom, having had a musical relationship close to a decade, are excited to be performing duo for the first time at Wesley Anne. The pair will play a collection of their favourite songs, ranging from swinging foot stompers to delicate ballads. The pair draws inspiration from the long tradition of Saxophone, piano duos such as Duke and Coltrane, Brad Mehldau and Joshua Redman, and Miguel Zennon and Luis Perdomo. Come on down on March 23rd for an evening of excellent music and wonderful vibes at the Wesley Anne!

Georgia Ray is a singer-songwriter based in Melbourne’s inner north. Influenced by the likes of Taylor Swift, Avril Lavigne and Tegan and Sara, she has been playing and writing music ever since she can remember. After playing keys and bass guitar in her first band as a teenager, her passion for music soared and she began exploring her own sound. Since then, Georgia's songs have become a unique concoction of pop, alternative and country genres, exposing her raw stories of love, loss and hope. She has been diving right back into the live music scene over the last few months and is excited to be sharing her music through her intimate acoustic performances. Georgia has recently been recognised as ‘One to Watch’ with the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI), and she is currently in the studio recording her next EP due out in mid 2023.

Girl Friday's songs evoke a sense of nostalgia, whimsy and the realisation that people have felt and sung about the same things forever and a day. Drawing inspiration from the timeless blues and jazz of the 1920s and 30s, her rich voice and heartfelt lyrics transport the audience to a different era while still being firmly rooted in the modern day.

With a few stories, an old guitar and kick drum, Tony J King creates the music of a journeyman with roots in the street-corner blues and urban folk of yesteryear. With influences ranging from James Elroy, Edgar Allen Poe, Homer, Kerouak and Joseph Conrad, King's latest album delivers slow-burnin, low-fi urban myths, half-truths, dark gospel and random fascinations that are represented in quirky musical tales honed from a pre-occupation with the unusual, the exotic and the downright bizarre.

Sunflower Jam is a jazz gig curated by Nelson Beks to bring in musicians for a solid hang and some great music. Night kicks off at 6pm with a short set from the houseband before the stage is opened up and anyone can jump up and call a tune.
