Post rock instrumental trio Badinage return to the Wesley Anne on Sunday August 27 for a special show with support from Tara Dowler, revisiting their acclaimed debut EP Meander and previewing a selection of fresh new tracks from their forthcoming album.
Badinage play garage lounge soundscapes—lush multi-instrumental songs that blend elements of psychedelia, smoky jazz, lazy grunge and pure pop to create ethereal aural soundscapes that are both instantly accessible and wonderfully unique.
The guitar-driven ambient music of Badinage draws a hazy, atmospheric line from the early psychedelia of Jimi Hendrix, Peter Green and Pink Floyd, through the 90s jazz-tinged slowcore of Spain, to the turn-of-the-century post-rock of groups such as Dirty Three, Mogwai and Sigur Rós.
The new full-length Badinage album, due for release later this year, sees the band exploring a broader sonic landscape that augments their powerful ambient musings with side-trips into laid-back country, haunting classical and straight-ahead rock.
There's a certain kind of scenic and cinematic melancholia in the sound of Badinage—immersive, evocative, hypnotic music for the mind, body and soul.
Badinage are: Simon Capp (Rhythm Pigs, Blue Ruin), Dave Reid (Speedway, The Likely Lads, Yard Dogs) and Matt Omond (Cactus, Still Life Clowns, The Ayatollahs).
The debut EP and album were recorded and produced by the legendary Phill Calvert (The Boys Next Door/The Birthday Party, Psychedelic Furs, Blue Ruin).
