K’Chidge Perform music from the Great American Songbook, modern jazz and latin standards with the occasional iconoclastic pop and punk tune from the 70s, 80s and 90s. A sensitive and creative ensemble, K’Chidge reimagine their repertoire through rich soundscapes and playful improvisation.
Jon Chidgey (Bass)
Seasoned musician, Jon Chidgey, has been performing jazz, blues and funk in Melbourne venues since the mid 1980s. An intuitive and lyrical bass player with impeccable time, he has played regularly with great local musicians Bob Sedergreen, Julie O’Hara, Kerry Simpson and Rohan Wallis. Jon studied Jazz and Improvisation at Melbourne’s VCA, majoring on Bass and Drums.
Simon Chidgey (Guitar)
Young guitarist, Simon Chidgey, currently studies Jazz and Improvisation at Melbourne University’s VCA. He is a graduate of Melbourne’s prestigious performing arts secondary school, VCASS. Simon has studied guitar with Melbourne greats, Stephen Magnusson, James Sherlock, Doug De Vries and Matt Kirsch. Simon’s guitar style is influenced by Wayne Krantz, John Scofield and Allan Holdsworth.
Barb Kerr (Voice/Flute)
Well known Melbourne flutist and music teacher, Barb Kerr, has taught Instrumental Music in Melbourne schools and performed in orchestras, musicals and chamber ensembles since the mid 1990s. An alumni of Melbourne University’s Conservatorium of Music, she has studied flute for many years. A lover of jazz and all good music, Barb is an avid supporter of Melbourne’s live music scene. During the last few years, she has been studying voice and jazz singing with Australia’s brilliant Michelle Nicolle. This has been a life changing experience setting Barb on a new adventure as a performer and jazz singer.
