Jojo Rainwater

  • Wesley Anne 250 High Street Northcote, VIC, 3070 Australia (map)

Jojo Rainwater has an authentic Southern American sound, best described as : Rock-n-SwampyBlues-Rootsy Gosple-n-Folk He has something vivid and profound to say through his music and tales of his relatives from the early days.

'Memphis' as he is known by his friends in has taken a long journey with many a rough and winding road to find the real character and voice in his music and song writing.

The American singer/guitarist was born August 16th 1962 in Memphis Tennessee not far from the muddy Mississippi river. No doubt he must have heard the sound of gospel and delta blues music in the air. Jojo's imagination was set to writing songs by the stories of his grandma who picked cotton as a little girl in the hot Mississippi summer sun and a grandpa who was a hopped trains during the great depression. But his great grand mother on his fathers side was from the Ozark mountains in Arkansas, she was a 'Rainwater', which is Cherokee (inspired his new stage name). There was of course some Scottish and Irish mixed in.
