Greece and Ireland

Band Room // $20 Door

Greece and Ireland. Two countries with enormously rich musical traditions, both sharing a lot of common ground. Music is a way of life in these two cultures, not only being dance music, but also music for “pareas” or “sessions”. Where people eat, drink, sing and dance together, long before Facebook and smartphones came along. What this night is about, is a meeting between the two musical traditions.

Omados plays regional Greek folk music, Greann Dove specialises in Irish traditional tunes, with some Balkan flavours thrown in. Both bands featuring the bagpipes from their respective cultures (the Uillean pipes from Ireland and the gaida and tsambouna pipes from Greece), each band will play a set before the night concludes with both bands on stage playing some shared repertoire all together. Clarinets, bagpipes, lutes, fiddles, bouzoukis, guitars, lyres. Ελάτε όλοι! Come on down everyone!
